Turkey will impose taxes on textile fabrics imported from six countries

A Pakistani delegation recently visited the Secretary of Foreign Trade, Cemalettin Damlaci and Ankara MNA, and Burhan Kayaturk (he is also the head of the Turkey-Pakistan Internal Parliamentary Group) discussed the issue of anti-dumping duties, which the Turkish government proposed to import from six countries. During the meeting, the Turkish authorities gave assurances that they would not make any decision that might unreasonably harm the Pakistani economy. The delegation proposed several reasons to convince the Turkish authorities not to impose anti-dumping duties on Pakistan. They claimed that Pakistan’s exporters did not engage in any dumping activities and that the collection of such taxes would even harm Turkish value-added industries because the value-added industries are highly dependent on imports.

The Turkish authorities attach great importance to the Pakistani delegation’s proposal and promise to say that they will not take any decisions that may unreasonably harm the Pakistani economy. They clarified that this is just an analysis phase and it may take 8-9 months before the government and entrepreneurs can make a final decision. However, they assured Pakistan that the process is transparent.
