European Parliament approves new regulations for animal fur textile labels

On the 11th, the European Parliament approved in Strasbourg the new EU regulations on animal fur textile labels.

According to regulations, any textiles made from animal fur materials in the future must be attributed to their attributes on the product label, indicating the “composition of animal fur” in order to allow consumers to identify the authenticity and remind allergic responders.

The European Parliament also requested the European Commission to submit a report on the causal relationship between chemical substances and allergic reactions such as dyes, fungicides, and nanoparticles contained in textiles before September 30, 2013. This report will probably serve as the basis for future legislation.

After the new regulations have been approved by the European Parliament, they need to be officially approved by EU member states. According to a communique issued by the European Parliament on that day, the new regulations will take effect 20 days after the EU officially approves this provision. However, given the need to update labels, the textile industry will have a two and a half year transition period. (Liu Shaoping)
