Laotian textiles benefit from EU preferential policies for origin

According to the Laotian Economic and Social News, the Lao Textile Association recently revealed that in the first six months of 2011, Lao textile exports exceeded 100 million U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 28%. Among them, exports to the EU, the United States, and Japan accounted for 75.3%, 17%, and 3.3%, respectively.

The reason for the substantial growth of textile exports in Laos is mainly due to the fact that the EU has implemented preferential policies for origins of less developed countries since January 2011, such as the elimination of product type restrictions. However, the Lao Textile Association is worried that with the sustained and rapid economic and social development in Laos and the increasing demand for labor in all walks of life, the textile industry in Laos will face greater worker shortage pressure.
