Clothing new national standard will implement strong control of toxic and hazardous substances since August

Recently, it was learned from the Provincial Bureau of Quality Supervision that China will implement a new national standard for textiles and garments starting in August this year. It is reported that all technical content of the new national standard is mandatory and aims to control the main toxic and harmful substances in textiles.

Among them, the aromatic amines that are not allowed to decompose in dyes under reducing conditions increased from 23 to 24 and increased 4-aminoazobenzene; at the same time, the maximum limit of carcinogenic aromatic amines was defined as 20 mg/kg, achieving International convergence.

The new national standard especially highlights the protection of children as a special consumer group. For example, the scope of clothing for infants and young children is increased from 24 months to 36 months, and these garments have to implement Class A standards. Type A standards are more stringent in terms of formaldehyde, pH, and color fastness.
