Indian government imposes anti-dumping duties on nylon filament yarns

Recently, the performance of power weaving machines and yarn importers in India’s largest manmade fiber industry was sluggish. This was mainly because the government imposed anti-dumping duties on imported nylon filament yarns on January 13 this year.
It is reported that India needs to import approximately 1400 metric tons of nylon filament yarn per month to meet the needs of manufacturers. According to the relevant policies of the Indian government, on January 13 this year, anti-dumping duties of US$0.46 to US$1.47/kg are imposed on imported nylon filament yarns from China, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.
India’s largest manmade fiber industry has 600,000 weaving machines and its manmade fibers account for about 40% of India’s national demand for manmade fibers. The main raw material for production of 150,000 machines in 600,000 machines is nylon filament yarns. In addition, there are about 750 warp knitting factories in the area. The total investment of the factory is 3 billion rupees. The main production materials for these factories are also nylon filament yarns. At present, the demand for nylon filament yarns in India is 5,000 metric tons per month, of which 3,300 metric tons are supplied locally and the rest are imported.
The South Gujarat Nylon Trade Association stated that the state should create a fair competitive environment for importers and end users of nylon filament yarn. The imposition of anti-dumping duties has caused the price of imported nylon filament yarns to skyrocket. Domestic buyers are unable to pay such high prices. Domestic nylon filament yarn sellers are taking advantage of the monopoly price.
On the other hand, domestic weaving plants in India are facing fierce competition from the Chinese market due to the import of 300 metric tons of knitted fabrics each month. People concerned believe that the government should impose anti-dumping duties on these products instead of raw materials.
