butterfly blouse sew-along starts today
Just wrapped up an amazing weekend at the International Quilt Market in Minneapolis, surrounded by such a vibrant community of creative souls. It's incredible to think that some folks traveled all the way from places like Australia, Japan, and Europe just to be here—simply because they share a passion for sewing and fabric. These gatherings always remind me of the timeless tradition of sewing circles, but now, thanks to the internet, we don't need to be physically close to connect and create together. You can be miles—or even oceans—apart and still feel part of something special. No need to book a flight halfway around the world! All you need is your pattern, fabric, and sewing machine, and you're ready to join in the fun!
So, who’s jumping into the Butterfly Blouse + Skirt sew-along with us this week? If you’re looking for fabric inspiration, head over to the Butterfly Blouse + Skirt Round-up to see how different makers have interpreted the ruffle and cap sleeve styles. And don’t miss Liesl’s upcoming heirloom Butterfly Blouse tutorial, which will walk you through one method of customizing your own design. It’s going to be posted on the blog later today, so keep an eye out!
Here’s what we’ll be tackling each day this week:
Day 1 (today): Get started, prepare the keyhole facing, and work on the blouse back.
Day 2: Assemble the blouse.
Day 3: Finish the neckline details.
Day 4: Prepare and attach the ruffle sleeve (View A), the cap sleeve (View B), and sew the side seams.
Day 5: Finalize the armholes (View A) and complete the blouse.
Head over to the Discussion Forums Sew Alongs group to dive into Day 1. We’d love to see your progress and hear about your experience!
Meanwhile, if you’ve ever wondered how to make sewing more accessible or how to connect with others who share your passion, the internet has truly transformed the way we approach these things. It’s no longer just about being in the same room—it’s about building a global community that’s united by creativity and craftsmanship. Whether you’re a seasoned sewer or just starting out, there’s always room for new ideas and fresh perspectives.
Let’s keep the momentum going and support each other along the way. Happy sewing, everyone!
