Fengxian Textile Industry Trade Union encourages orderly interaction within the industry

Dongfangwang reported on February 24: According to a recent "Labor" report, as textile and garment companies across the region face ongoing labor shortages, the Fengxian District Textile Industry Trade Union Federation has been actively promoting a more structured and cooperative approach within the industry. By encouraging the smooth flow of people, goods, and information, the unions have helped reduce the chaos caused by uncontrolled employee movement. Instead of relying on temporary or "guerrilla" labor, the focus is now on using stable, trained workers, which has significantly improved operational efficiency. Through resource sharing and mutual support, the influence of trade unions in the sector has grown steadily, covering over 400 companies and more than 40,000 employees. In its efforts to support both workers and businesses, the regional textile industry union has emphasized the creation of collaborative platforms to strengthen internal cooperation. For example, last year, when Shanghai Zili Garment Co., Ltd. faced the demolition of its old factory and had an urgent order for nearly 15,000 garments, the company turned to the industry’s trade unions for assistance. Thanks to this support, Weifeng Yingle Knitting Company stepped in to help complete the order on time, showcasing the power of collective action. As the post-Spring Festival period brings intense competition for skilled labor, many textile and garment companies are struggling to attract and retain talent. Some have lowered their hiring standards, while others are offering higher salaries to lure workers away from competitors. In response, the trade unions have proposed the development of an industry-wide information platform to facilitate smoother interaction between companies regarding personnel, logistics, and communication. This initiative not only helps maintain stability but also supports employee training and development, leading to positive outcomes for all parties involved. In addition to addressing immediate challenges, the regional textile industry unions have been strengthening their role in collective bargaining. In 2010, local textile enterprises signed the “1+2” agreement, which includes wage equality consultations, collective contracts, and special agreements tailored to the needs of female employees. This agreement covers 306 units and 31,000 members, reflecting the growing trust and collaboration between workers and management. (Author: Zhang Yun)
