On February 11, in the early morning after a fresh snowfall, New York Fashion Week officially began at Bryant Park. At 3 p.m., Ports 1961, known for its commitment to natural and ecological values, unveiled its Fall/Winter 2010 “Work?†collection. The brand’s designers, sisters Fiona and Tia Cibani, who are renowned for their innovative use of technology, infused their designs with organic and eco-friendly concepts, sparking a new wave of "organic fashion" and "low-carbon living" within the industry.
The show was not only a visual spectacle but also a meaningful message about sustainability. Guests were given ceramic pots as part of the experience, inspired by the rosemary seeds featured in the invitations. This creative gesture aimed to promote the joy of growing plants and to bring natural beauty into the world of luxury. In a city recently hit by heavy snow, the collection encouraged reflection on the environmental damage caused by over-exploitation and offered a hopeful vision of a greener future.
Models walked out with soft, natural makeup against a dark mechanical backdrop. Bold hairstyles paired with round leather "flying caps" created a refreshing look, while structured silhouettes emphasized the collection’s modern yet timeless appeal. The aesthetic blended elements of Victorian craftsmanship with contemporary innovation, creating a harmonious mix of tradition and progress.
The collection featured structured jackets, evening wear designed with ergonomic principles, and feminine corsets that celebrated heritage while looking toward the future. Rich color palettes included deep purples, rosemary greens, indigo, and chicory, alongside more subdued tones like soot and ash. A warm sage and ginger hue ran throughout, adding a sense of whimsy and playfulness. Glazed porcelain accessories and jewelry added an organic texture, enhancing the overall elegance.
Chinese supermodel Liu Wen made her return to the Ports 1961 runway, carrying a small pot of rosemary gifted by designer Tia Cibani. Tia shared, “The scent of rosemary is fresh and mysterious, symbolizing memories and love. Looking back at the past and forward to the future, we begin by planting a green plant, creating an organic and low-carbon environment where technology and nature can coexist.†This vision of balance and sustainability reflects the brand’s ongoing mission.
The show was a powerful reminder of the potential for fashion to inspire change, blending creativity with responsibility. As the fashion world continues to evolve, Ports 1961 remains a beacon of innovation and environmental consciousness.
